Painting Arena Rex: Mago
Today I finished another mini, this time from a new game to me, Arena Rex! I picked up most of the Morituri line.
The first I decided to tackle is Mago, the Retiarii (net and trident gladiator).
I did the base first due to the net. I did my stone effect bases of layering feathered greys. I used simple sand (it's an arena) and some stones for accents.
Next I washed the model in Agarax Earthshade and started to paint the flesh. It was my first time painting dark skin tones.
I used a turquoise on the cloth and a red on the spear sash. I washed the turquoise with a blue wash then highlighted up through various mixes of the turquoise and white. The Metal on the chest parts and his helmet were mixes of a mustard and a brown with flesh tones being added in during highlights. The pauldron was similar but used mixes of yellow as well. The iron/steel was blending greys up to nearly white.
The final touches were reds on the trident sash and highlights here and there.
Mago was a lot of fun to paint and I look forward to the rest of my Morituri! Stay tuned for more and as always, feel free to comment!
